No. 1.

Dear Senhor Gomez,

Sir F. Campbell to Senhor Gomez.

Foreign Office, May 20, 1911. WE have had the pleasure of receiving your note of the 3rd instant on the subject of the proposed opium conference at The Hague.

Sir E. Grey desires me to express to you his satisfaction at the agreement of the Portuguese Government with the proposals of His Majesty's Government as to the matters for discussion at the conference.

As regards the date of meeting, we have now heard from the Netherlands Legation that the conference has been indefinitely postponed.

Believe me, yours sincerely,
